Ingredients:

Motor Dal - 100 grams

Potato - 1 medium, cut into quarters

Radish/Mulo - 4 big pieces

Kumro - 4 big cubes

Drumsticks/Shojne daata - 4-6 pieces

Potol - 2, cut into half longitudnally

Ginger - 1 tsp, very finely sliced

Green Chillies - 3, slit

*Paanch phoron - 1 tsp

Turmeric - 1/4 tsp

Salt - To taste

Ghee - 2 tbsp + 1 tsp

 

*Panch Phoron: Mix of equal proportions of 5 spices: Cumin (jeera), Fenugreek (methi), Mustard (shorshe/sarso), Nigella (kalojeere), and Radhuni or Fennel (mouri/saunf)

 

 

 

 

Cooking procedure:

  1. Wash dal and soak for 30 mins.

  2. Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pressure cooker and saute all vegetables together with ginger. Fry for 2 mins and add 3 cups water (vary quantity as per your desire). Then add dal and pressure cook for 4 whistles on medium high heat or till dal and vegetables are cooked.

  3. In a separate small wok heat 1 tsp ghee and fry green chillies and paanch phoron for 1 minute. Add to the cooked dal. Simmer for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.

 

Serving Suggestions:

Best eaten with any fry and/or pickle.
